October 14, 2009
At the Sí a la Vida residence in Managua, Casa Nuevo Amanecer, the boys moved into their new, second-floor dormitory in mid-October. The renovated bedroom houses 12 boys (in six bunkbeds) as well as the nighttime supervisor. The first-floor multi-purpose room where the boys slept during the renovation is now available for daily educational activities and for meetings with the kids, their parents, and graduates of the program. During the renovation, construction workers also improved structural support to the building to reduce potential earthquake damage, and enhanced security to deter break-ins. This renovation was spearheaded by Mercedes Guido, president of Sí a la Vida. Financing was provided jointly by the Spanish group Castilla de la Mancha and by a private U.S. donor.
